University of Vavuniya Student Wins in International Women’s Day Competition at UGC

Ms. Ananthitha J, a third-year Computer Science student from the Department of Physical Science, Faculty of Applied Science, at the University of Vavuniya (Registration No: 2020/ASP/60), secured second place in the prestigious International Women’s Day Competition organized by the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE) of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The competition was held to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025 under the United Nations theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” It focused on finding innovative solutions to gender-specific problems and was open to undergraduate students of all genders from state universities, campuses, and institutes across Sri Lanka.

Ms. Ananthitha’s submission demonstrated creativity and deep insight into addressing gender-related issues, earning her second place among entries from state universities nationwide. This achievement reflects the high caliber of talent at the University of Vavuniya and highlights the university’s dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women.
