DEAN’S MESSAGE

Since its inception in 1997, Faculty of Applied Science ( FAS) has been dedicated to excellence in education, research, and holistic student development. As one of the pioneer faculties of the former Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna, and now an integral part of the newly established University of Vavuniya, we have contributed to providing higher education for over 25 years.

Faculty comprises two departments: Bio-science and Physical Science which offer a variety of degree programs, including honors degrees such as BSc Honours in Computer Science, BSc Honours in Environmental Science, and BSc Honours in Information Technology. Additionally, faculty  offer general degrees like BSc in Applied Mathematics and Computing, and BSc in Information Technology. Each year, there is a potential to admit 381 students through the University Grants Commission (UGC), and we also accommodate international students. All programs are taught in English.Adhering to a semester-wise credit-based system, degree programs offered by the FAS are unique and multidisciplinary. We focus on enhancing the teaching and learning environment through Outcome Based Education and student-centered Learning, ensuring a well-rounded and globally competitive education.

Located in Pampaimadu, 10 km from Vavuniya town, faculty is surrounded by forest, a tank, and rice fields, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and state-of-the-art facilities. This peaceful environment is ideal for learning and personal growth, conducive for effective teaching, learning, and research. It also supports various student activities, including sports, recreation, religious, cultural, and civil engagements, facilitated by the centers and units of the University of Vavuniya. We encourage you to take full advantage of our resources, including accommodation, laboratories, libraries, recreational facilities, and various support services.

Beyond academic activities, students are encouraged to engage in extracurricular activities, sports, cultural programs, and community service. These experiences will enrich your university life and help you develop valuable skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication. Degree programs offered by FAS are recognized both nationally and globally. Our graduates have excelled as academics, researchers, administrators, and IT professionals, with many pursuing advanced degrees (M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D.) at prestigious institutions worldwide.
