5th Annual Research Session – FARS2024
The fifth Faculty Annual Research Session (FARS-2024) of the Faculty of Applied Science was held on October 30, 2024 on the theme of “Exploring Science for Humanity”. The FARS-2024 incorporated Annual student congress (ASRC-2024) which encouraged the undergraduate students to submit abstracts along with poster presentation Annual research session included together scientific findings from both biological and physical sciences, covering tracks such as Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Information Technology and Information Systems, Agriculture and Biosystems Technology, Environmental Science, and Life Sciences. Professor V. Dhayalan (Department of Computer science, Electrical engineering and Mathematical sciences,Western Norway University of Applied Sciences , Campus Bergen, Norway ) was invited as chief gust for the session.
Keynote
Prof. Nophea Sasaki from the Natural Resource Management program at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, and Dr. Vahid Abolghasemi from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Essex in the UK, delivered engaging speeches on the topics: “Nature-Based Solutions for Achieving and Exceeding Net-Zero Emissions: Business Potential and Carbon Markets on Campus,” and “Recent Trends, Applications, and Advances in AI and Deep Learning for Lightweight Processing and Edge Device Implementation,” respectively.
Technical sessions and Poster presentation
Technical sessions were conducted under four tracks based on the areas covered by the submitted papers. The following track chairs, coordinators, and co-hosts provided support Dr. S. J. Arasakesary. Dr. S. Sarujan, Prof. K. Kannan and Dr. T. Ketheesan served as session chair for the tracks Agriculture and Biosystems Technologym Agricultural Economics and Value Addition, Mathematics and Statistics, and Computer Science and Software Engineering respectively
The ASRC poster session was evaluated by Dr.S.J.Arasakesary, Dr.T.Ketheesan and Mr.V.Senthooran for the best presentation award in the fields of Environmental Science, Computer Science, and Information Technology, and the certificates were issued for the winners.
Student Exhibition
A Student based exhibition was conducted to encourage students from the Faculty of Applied Science to enhance their innovative ideas and collaborative work under the theme ‘Waste as a Resource. A total of 21 exhibits were received, each produced by a maximum of three students. The best exhibitors were awarded first, second, and third places, and all participants received a certificate of participation to acknowledge their efforts.
Industry Panel Discussion
To motivate undergraduate students to become entrepreneurs and to discuss future careers, an industry interaction session was organized. Six panel members shared their experiences on the following topics: the start-up journey, building the right team, pivoting ideas, recruitment strategies, interview experiences, understanding current industry trends, the importance of logical thinking, the rise of AI, and additional professional tips.
