Message from the IT Coordinator
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) degree program, introduced in 2006 under the Department of Physical Science, was revised and renamed as the Information Technology (IT) program in 2018. Students from all GCE Advanced Level streams are eligible to apply for this program, subject to the eligibility criteria outlined in the UGC Handbook.
Although the IT degree program operates under the Department of Physical Science, it maintains a separate administrative structure and dedicated resources since its inception. Over the years, the program has produced several batches of graduates who have secured promising career opportunities in both the state and private sectors, as well as internationally. Many graduates have also received overseas scholarships for postgraduate studies and have gone on to serve as lecturers.
The IT curriculum is thoughtfully designed to deliver knowledge across diverse subject areas, including:
- Data Management
- Platform Technologies
- Programming
- Web Development
- Networking
- Image Processing, Graphics, and Multimedia
- High-Performance Computing
- Relevant Mathematics and Statistics
The program incorporates group and individual projects to help students develop teamwork and showcase their individual skills. Honours degree students also participate in an industrial training program to further enhance their IT and management expertise.
In addition to academics, students actively engage in extracurricular activities through the IEEE Student Branch and the Information Technology & Computing Society (ITCS), fostering both professional and personal growth.
