Guest Lecture on Unlocking the Future of Data-Driven Innovation

The Department of Physical Science, University of Vavuniya, successfully organized a guest lecture titled “Unlocking the Future of Data-Driven Innovation” on January 15, 2025 (Wednesday), from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Smart Lecture Hall, Faculty of Applied Science.

The guest speakers for the session were Ms. R. Rinusga R and Ms. M. Pirakasini, both Associate Data Engineers at BCS Technology International Pvt Ltd. Notably, they are alumni of the Department of Physical Science, University of Vavuniya.

The session provided an insightful overview of the necessity of data science in business, covering key topics such as:

• The role of machine learning models and data science models in solving business problems.
• Various career opportunities in the field of data science.
• Essential skills required for students aiming for a career in data science.
• Guidance on how to showcase programming experience, coding competition participation, and other credentials for securing internships and job opportunities.
• Information on certifications in data science and how students can earn them to enhance their professional profiles.

The session was highly interactive, and students gained valuable insights into the industry. The alumni shared their experiences from their internships at BCS Technology and how it shaped their careers.

The event was coordinated by Mrs. R. Yasotha, the lecturer in charge of the Data Science course module for the fourth year of the IT Degree Program. All fourth-year IT and Computer Science students were invited to participate, making it a highly engaging and beneficial event for aspiring data scientists.
