Workshop – Silage Production Techniques
Dr. B. Sivayoganathan (Resource person to facilitate silage production) and his team (including various entrepreneurs and real-world inventors) visited the University of Vavuniya on 24th May 2023 9 am – 2 pm to provide demonstrations and training to students and staff on the silage production techniques. More than 106 participants benefited from the training session. Level 1 and Level 2 undergraduates at the Department of Bio-science participated in the short training for the course module ENS1212 Environment and Agriculture. The visit has been arranged by Prof. (Ms.) A. Nanthakumaran (Professor in Environmental Science, Department of Bio-science) and Dr. K. Arjunan (Senior Lecturer, Department of Bio-science).
A group discussion helped develop know-how and knowledge of production techniques. The inventor of the silage-cutting machine explained the parts and processes related to the Chaff Cutter. A recent entrepreneur from the Kilinochchi district explained the potential limitations in the commercialization of silage production. The varieties of cultural practices associated with silage production were also discussed.
This workshop was arranged under the AHEAD grant sub-activity 1.1/1.2 coordinated by Mr. G. Naveendrakumar (Project Coordinator/AHEAD ELTA-ELSE Dept. DP).
