Visit of Adjunct Professors from CSIBER to University of Vavuniya

As part of an academic exchange program under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CSIBER and the University of Vavuniya, adjunct professors Dr. E.R. Dhananjay, Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Management, and Dr. S. Shruthi from the Department of Computer Science and Applications at CSIBER visited the University of Vavuniya on September 23, 2024.

Academic Contributions

Dr. Mali conducted a series of lectures covering advanced topics in environmental science for the students of the Department of Bio-Science at levels 3 and 4. The topics included:

  • Environmental Biotechnology (9 hours) – Focused on biofuel, biofertilizer, and biogas.
  • Industrial Chemistry and Pollution Monitoring – 4 hours of lectures.
  • Advanced Wastewater Treatments ( 7 hours) – Additional in-depth discussions on treatment methodologies.

These sessions provided valuable insights into cutting-edge environmental science, enhancing the academic experience for the students and enriching their curriculum.

Cultural and Field Visits

The faculty of Applied science organized a series of field visits, allowing the guests to explore key cultural and natural sites in Sri Lanka. The itinerary included visits to Mannar, Jaffna, and Matale, where Dr. Dhananjay and Dr. Shruthi explored historical landmarks and experienced the diverse natural scenery, including coastal, forest, and mountainous regions.

Coordination and Support

Dr. K. Arjunan, Senior Lecturer, coordinated the visit, while Mr. T. Keerthanaram, a Probationary Lecturer from the Department of Bio-Science, Faculty of Applied Science, accompanied the visiting professors throughout their stay. Their guidance and support ensured the success of both the academic and cultural aspects of the program.This visit not only strengthened academic collaboration between the two institutions but also provided an enriching cultural exchange, fostering future collaborations.

Visit to the Highland tourist places

The lecturers from the CSIBER were taken into the highland areas on 17th of October 2024. Mr. Keerthanaram, Lecturer (Prob.) from the Department of Bio-science, Faculty of Applied Science was accompanied them to visit the following locations:

  • Dambulla Golden Temple
  • Matale Muththumari Amman Kovil
  • Sembuwaththa Lake, Matale
  • Sembuwaththa Tea estate, Matale
