Community Education program conducted by the Environmental Science Students
The Community Education program was conducted as two programs for the Grade 11 students (G.C.E. O/L) on 3rd of September 2022.
- Program #1: G.C.E. (O/L) Seminar – for the subjects Mathematics and Science
- Program #2: Environmental Awareness program especially on Dengue prevention and e-waste collection
The above two programs were conducted by the Level 4 students following BSc (Hons) in environmental science degree program.
Program #1: There were more than 100 students from Grade 11 from 5 Sinhala medium schools in the Vavuniya District benefitted by the above programs. The list of schools are as follows.

- V/ Sirisumana Vidyalaya
- V/Alagalla Vidyalaya
- V/Gamini Vidyalaya
- V/ Parakum Maha Vidyalaya
The aim of this outreach program is to train the students to sit for the G.C.E (O/L) students in the subjects of Mathematics and Science using a model exam paper and relevant short notes for the respective subjects. Meanwhile, this helps the environmental science students to increase their teaching competencies in the real world. The organizers (Level 4, Env Sc students) expects an improvement in the performance of Grade 11 students in the G.C.E (O/L) exams in Mathematics and Science.
Program #2: This program is a kind of community education and awareness on the topics of Dengue prevention and proper e-waste collection. This was conducted through distribution of leaflets (which was prepared by the environmental science students), appropriate demonstration and presentation to the school students and their community. It is believed that conducting such environmental education program will definitely make a sustainable change in the society in their attitudes towards environment.
This program was supported by the school principal, teachers, zonal education department and other relevant officers. This was funded by the AHEAD ELTA-ELSE Department DP of the Department of Bio-science and the transport facilities were provided by the University of Vavuniya.
