Field visit to the Sinharaja Forest Reserve and National Botanical Garden
Level II and Level IV of the Department of Bio-science students embark on a field visit to the Sinharaja Nature Reserve and the National Botanical Garden, Peradeniya, on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of January 2025. This field visit was intended to enlighten the biodiversity of Sri Lanka and allow students to visit the Sinharaja Nature Reserve, a UNESCO-accredited biodiversity hotspot. The Level II students explored the insitu and exsitu conservation management in contrasting environments, respectively. Also, the students understood the vital experience of the touristic potential and challenges of these locations, which is one of the important parts of biodiversity conservation. As part of the course, module ENS 41(10)2 (Environmental Communication), level IV students prepare a documentary highlighting the importance of environmental photography and journalism in ecological communication, convey the necessity of forest conservation, and obtain intense knowledge on it.
