Award of AHEAD Dept. DP

Department of Bio-Science won LKR 18 million competitive grant under Results area 2, round 2 to improve the quality of Higher Education (AHEAD/RA2/ELTA-ELS/JFN/FAS/BIO). Dr (Mrs) S Devaisy (Senior Lecturer/DBS) coordinates the project with the two more activity coordinators Mr G Naveendrakumar (Senior Lecturer/DBS) and Dr G Jeyaseelan (Head and Senior Lecturer/ELTU). The project will operate at the Department of Bio-Science until the end of 2022.

The development of the higher education sector is of central importance to enable Sri Lanka to make the transition from a Lower-Middle Income Country (LMIC) to an Upper Middle-Income Country (UMIC). Recognizing this, the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and the World Bank have agreed to support the higher education sector through a Word Bank funded Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) operation.
