Professor Nophea Sasaki is a distinguished academic and expert in nature-based solutions (NbS) for carbon capture and sustainability. He specializes in forest carbon management, carbon accounting, and developing advanced mobile applications to address the triple planetary crisis. With a strong academic background, Professor Sasaki has supervised over 40 master’s students and 15 PhD students, guiding research in various aspects of NbS, forest carbon management, and carbon accounting.
Professor Sasaki serves as an editor for several top-notch journals and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. His work focuses on reducing carbon emissions, ensuring transparent monitoring and verification of carbon projects, addressing broader sustainability challenges, and preventing biodiversity loss while restoring ecosystems.
As a prolific researcher and educator, Professor Sasaki has significantly contributed to the academic community, publishing numerous papers and presenting at international conferences. Dr. Abolghasemi is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) within the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at the University of Essex. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, in 2011, following which he held a postdoctoral research assistant position at Brunel University. His work there contributed to an EPSRC-funded project focused on the application of compressive sensing for terahertz imaging.
His primary research interests lie in signal and image processing, computer vision, and machine learning, with a particular emphasis on compressive sensing and its integration into emerging domains. Dr. Abolghasemi’s dedication to advancing technology has led to innovative solutions in medical, agricultural, and industrial contexts, resulting in publications in reputable journals and conferences.
Currently, Dr. Abolghasemi is deeply involved in expanding the practical applications of his theoretical expertise. His research spans cutting-edge technologies such as smart and adaptive low-power sensing and communication, wireless image transmission, compressed and lightweight neural networks, and artificial intelligence. These advancements hold significant promise for sectors including healthcare, agriculture, and addressing global environmental challenges.
Acknowledged for his impactful contributions, Dr. Abolghasemi holds the distinction of being a Senior Member of IEEE and was honored with the IEEE Young Investigator Award in 2018. He has also served as a guest editor for various scientific journals and as a technical program committee member for flagship conferences.
